Accessibility Grievance Policy and Procedure

Students with disabilities are protected from discrimination via the Goodwin University Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation Policy and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Individuals who believe an employee has failed to uphold their accommodation may file a complaint under the Goodwin University Accessibility Grievance Procedure.

This grievance process is intended to address conflicts for the following reasons:

  • Disagreements regarding a requested service, accommodation, or modification of a university practice or requirement
  • Inaccessibility of a program or activity
  • Violation of privacy in the context of disability

It is against the law for the University to retaliate against anyone who files a grievance or cooperates in the investigation of a grievance.

Methods of resolution

  1. Speak directly with the faculty or staff member allegedly at issue. Remind them of your accommodations and review each party’s expectations. Frequently, issues are due to misunderstandings or a lack of communication.
  2. Seek assistance from the Office of Student Disability and Access Services (ODAS), which is available to help mediate situations related to accommodations within campus settings, including housing or classrooms, and action/inaction by faculty or staff.
  3. If neither of these methods works, you may then proceed to file an accessibility grievance with the University’s appointed ADA/504 Coordinator.

Associate Director of Title IX, and Equity Compliance, ADA/504 Coordinator

The Accessibility Grievance Procedure takes the allegations and passes them to the University’s appointed ADA/504 Coordinator. These complaints should be submitted as soon as possible after the alleged incident occurs, but no later than 90 days after the last incident. These matters are generally resolved within 30 days unless there is reasonable cause for a delay.

The University may waive the 90-day deadline upon showing good cause or where the law requires.
