LGBTQ+

Students, faculty, and staff who do not conform to stereotypical perceptions of masculinity or femininity are protected from discrimination, harassment, and violence.

  • You have the right to be protected from being bullied or harassed because you are transgender or gender nonconforming.
  • You have the right to equal educational opportunities regardless of your gender identity or expression.
  • You have the right to present yourself in a way that is consistent with your gender identity.
  • You have a right to privacy concerning your transgender status and sexual orientation.
  • You have the right to expect that your preferred pronoun is honored.

Members of the LGBTQ+ community are at higher risk of experiencing sex-based misconduct than their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts. Despite this, LGBTQ+ individuals may be less likely to report these incidents, out of concern that people may find out about their sexual orientation, fear of retaliation, or other barriers to not receiving assistance they may need.

The Office of Civil Rights Compliance strives to create a safe space for reporting sex-based misconduct. The following information is intended to help people make informed decisions and to provide information and resources which may be helpful.
