What does a funeral services director do?
Operating a funeral home, a funeral services director executes the details of a funeral according to the surviving family members’ religious and, or personal wishes, allowing the loved ones to grieve.
A go-to in taking the burden off of grief-stricken survivors
Arranging and managing all of the logistics for the families of the deceased, the responsibilities of a funeral services director may include: retrieving the body, meeting with family members to discuss plans for the service, writing the obituary, preparing sites for viewing, administering grief counseling, as well as submitting legal documentation like death certificates for insurance purposes.
Funeral service directors must have at least an associate degree in funeral service or mortuary science, complete their apprenticeship, and pass the state board exam.
