SMART is an acronym, standing for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. It’s a framework establishing concise and actionable goals that increase your likelihood of success.
How can I assess whether my goals fit the SMART goal framework?
When determining if your objectives are supported by the SMART goal framework, consider the following:
- Be as specific as possible when determining the desired outcome of your goal
- Ensure you have tools and strategies for measuring the progress of your goal
- Be sure to set goals that are reasonable, realistic, and achievable
- Set goals that are relevant to long-term progress and success
- Structure your goals according to a designated timeline
What are some examples of SMART goals?
Some examples of effective SMART goals include:
- Earn at least a “B” in all my classes this semester
- Work on my essay for one hour every day this month
- Increase my participation this semester by raising my hand at least once during every class
