How can I assess whether my goals fit the SMART goal framework?

When determining if your objectives are supported by the SMART goal framework, consider the following:

  • Be as specific as possible when determining the desired outcome of your goal
  • Ensure you have tools and strategies for measuring the progress of your goal
  • Be sure to set goals that are reasonable, realistic, and achievable
  • Set goals that are relevant to long-term progress and success
  • Structure your goals according to a designated timeline

What are some examples of SMART goals?

Some examples of effective SMART goals include:

  • Earn at least a “B” in all my classes this semester
  • Work on my essay for one hour every day this month
  • Increase my participation this semester by raising my hand at least once during every class
