What is zero tolerance machining?
In machining, there is a small range of acceptable variation in the size of manufactured parts. This is referred to as tolerance. Parts manufactured using zero tolerance machining have very minimal variations that are extremely close to zero.
Why is tolerance important?
Tolerance determines the room for error when manufacturing a part. Low tolerance helps guarantee that all parts will be safe and functional. What tools are used in zero tolerance machining?
Many manufacturers favor wire EDM in zero tolerance machining. Wire EDM is a type of electrical discharge machining that uses a small, conductive wire to cut through metal workpieces. Wire EDM cuts with precision and can handle extremely low tolerances. Moreover, wire EDM is contact-free. This means that there is less risk of delicate parts being damaged.
