How to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP)?

To become a certified PMHNP, applicants must be a licensed registered nurse (RN). To become an RN, applicants would need either an associate or bachelor’s degree in Nursing then pass the NCLEX‑RN exam. Additionally, PMHNP candidates must earn a graduate degree in nursing. This can be achieved through a masters (MSN) or doctoral (DNP) program. Once these degrees and licenses are achieved, applying to a PMHNP program is possible.
